As a child of five years of age, I fell off a cliff. While I landed on my feet, I shifted by saccrum out of alignment. I did not see a doctor at the time and I grew up knowing I was `stiff’. Then, at seventeen, I fell while tobogganing. Next morning, I could not straighten my head, having developed whiplash. The chiropractor who treated me at the time noticed my earlier injury and had Xrays taken of that as well as my neck.
Over the next dozen years, I broke horses for a living, sustaining a number of painful falls. My new chiropractor later told me he had never seen anyone so young with a back in poor shape. I suffered from constant low grade back pain, lack of mobility and frequent headaches.
I read about shiatsu in a health magazine and immediately decided to study it. While in school, I was able to qualify for a student rate for extra treatments as well as the practice treatments in class. Before my program ended, my mobility was back to normal, my headaches became very rare and my back pain was gone. It was if I had turned the clock back twenty years!
I have also utilized the mood stabilizing benefits of shiatsu. The first time I competed in a provincial championship with my horse, my nervousness resulted in a poor performance. With the next championship, I booked a shiatsu session with a former classmate the day before my event. I won my riding event!
I also used shiatsu to wean my first husband off the sleeping pills he was addicted to. Just fifteen minutes of shiatsu whenever he couldn’t sleep allowed him to easily fall into a restful sleep.
The benefits of shiatsu accumulate with successive treatments and I am proof of how beneficial shiatsu is.
