What is Shiatsu
Shiatsu (literally, finger pressure) is a wonderful hands on therapy developed by the Japanese. It consists of pressure applied to specific points along the meridian lines (similar to acupuncture) to balance and normalize the body. The entire body is treated. Shiatsu addresses the root causes of problems. It is sometimes referred to as acupressure but there are no needles involved. The effect is to create a regulatory influence on the Autonomic Nervous System; thereby producing improved organ function and reduced muscle tension.
Shiatsu is not massage. Massage works on the surface of the skin, whereas the pressure of shiatsu penetrates far deeper. There is no manipulation although gentle stretches are sometimes used. It is a non-invasive physical therapy designed to stimulate the body’s inherent ability to heal itself. The technique involves the systematic application of manual pressure to the body in order to assess and heal a variety of conditions
People of all ages, including elderly people and children experience lasting beneficial results from therapeutic Shiatsu treatment. Shiatsu is safe even for pregnancy.
